Man tries to outrun police

  • GOWANDA - Nathan E. Miskell, 18, of Aldrich Street, Gowanda has been charged with third-degree escape after running from police on Jan. 12 following arraignment.

Patrol responded to the report of a father-son domestic dispute at 63 Aldrich St. When patrol arrived, they were notified that Miskell had become enraged and intentionally smashed a lamp against the wall and then intentionally kicked two windows out of a front door.

Miskell was charged with criminal mischief and arraigned in Town of Persia Court. He was sentenced to Cattaraugus County Jail in lieu of $500 bail.

At the conclusion of his arraignment, while an officer was receiving the appropriate documentation from the judge, Miskell bolted from the courtroom, running down West Main Street still in handcuffs.

During a foot chase, patrol apprehended Miskell and again took him into custody. He was then charged with escape. He was then transported to Cattaraugus County Jail once in custody.

City fire ruled accidental

The cause of the fire at a residence on Columbus Avenue in Dunkirk early Sunday has been determined to be accidental. According to Dunkirk Fire 616 headquarters Monday, the fully involved fire was caused by a gas stove being used for heating purposes. Combustibles in the vicinity of the stove caught fire leading to the devastating blaze that destroyed the house.

Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office

Scott L. Laurito, 29, of Brocton was charged with driving while intoxicated, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, having a BAC of .08 or greater, disobeying a stop sign and having a loud exhaust Friday. At 12:41 a.m., patrol conducted a traffic stop on Hartfield Stockton Road in Chautauqua. The operator was identified as Laurito. Following an investigation, Laurito was charged for DWI. He was also allegedly in possession of a narcotic prescription drug for which he did not possess a prescription for. He was processed and released on appearance tickets for Chautauqua Town Court.

NORTH HARMONY - Paul C. Carlson, 50, of Panama, was charged Sunday with forcible touching after an incident that took place Friday around 1 a.m. at an address on Wall Street. Carlson was issued tickets to appear in the Town of North Harmony Court at a later date.

Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Office

DAYTON - Jeffery A. Cardot Jr., 27, of Cassadaga, was charged Thursday with driving while intoxicated, DWI with a blood alcohol content over .08 percent and failure to use a turn signal after he was stopped on Route 322 around 8:40 p.m. He was take into custody and released with tickets to appear in the Town of Dayton Court at a later date.
