Play to benefit local NSAL chapter

January 18, 2012
The OBSERVER

Jill Keating and Robert Plyler will star in a benefit production of the play "Love Letters," by A.R. Gurney, at 6 p.m., on Saturday, Jan. 28.

Presenting the event is the Chautauqua New York Chapter of the National Society of Arts & Letters (NSAL), the local affiliate of a national organization whose goal is to recognize and promote promising young talent. The festive evening includes a light supper and a performance of the romantic comedy at the Carl Cappa Theater at the Robert H. Jackson Center. The Center is located at 305 E. Fourth St. in Jamestown.

The production is being presented as a head start on Valentine's Day. Mayville resident Jill Keating, a professional actor, dancer, and singer and Robert Plyler, columnist and arts critic for the OBSERVER and Jamestown's Post-Journal and a musician and actor, will perform the play in the newly renovated theater. The production will follow a light supper in the center's display rooms, which is included in the admission price. All proceeds will support scholarships given by the Chautauqua New York Chapter of NSAL.

Individual tickets are $30 and include admission to the Jackson Center mansion, a light supper, wine and other beverages, dessert and the performance.

The play is a reading by the actors of a lifetime of personal letters between two dear friends from childhood, through the prime of their adulthood, and beyond. The actors have previously performed the play together, in 2011. Juanita Wallace Jackson, president of NSAL's local chapter saw the two actors in that sold-out performance and commented on "their wonderful ability to make one laugh, cry, and think about our own lives in a new way."

Tickets are available by credit card or check by calling 763-0578 or by cash or check, at the Jackson Center, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
