SUNY faculty member to speak at church

February 4, 2012
The OBSERVER

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Northern Chautauqua announces that Dr. Bond Benton will speak on Sunday. Benton is a faculty member in the Communication Department at SUNY Fredonia. His research focuses on international communication and diplomacy. Previously he worked for the U.S. State Department, striving to promote international understanding.

Benton's talk, "The Courage to Commit to Diversity" will explore the idea that many of the things taken for granted as truths are the results of a cultural perspective. Understanding that perspective and understanding the perspectives of others requires the courage to navigate the uncertainty of difference. Diversity is beautiful, and this talk by Benton will challenge everyone to remember that diversity is also a commitment. All are invited to attend this service.

During the service Religious Exploration classes for children in grades K-4 and Coming of Age for grades 5-8 will meet. Childcare for those less than 5 years of age will also be provided.

Worship services are held each Sunday at 11 a.m. in the Grange Hall, 58 W. Main St., Fredonia. Call 679-7944 or visit www.uucnc.org for more information.
