Editor, OBSERVER:
In this day and age we hear stories of schools where things go horribly wrong, I have a short simple story about how things go right.
My children attend Sherman Central School. This school year, my 12-year-old missed the bus at the end of the day once. It was just one of those things, she took a moment too long getting her coat on, and her musical instrument packed away, and ran out of the school in time to see the bus pulling away.
One of the school employees drove her in the school Suburban to rendezvous with the bus, while they remained in contact through the CB radio. And just last night, she stayed after to receive help with an assignment from a teacher, and completely forgot to sign up for the late bus.
When she realized her mistake, when she was told that this bus was full and her name was not on the list, the school called a bus back to the school to pick her up and ensure she arrived home safely.
I am so proud of our bus garage employees, who keep the safety and welfare of the children first. I just wanted everyone to know.
