BROCTON - The Brocton Teachers' Association announces its selections for Student of the Month for December 2011.
Seventh-grader Ilse Ghent is the daughter of Charles and Martha Ghent of Pomfret. Ilse is involved in Brocton's Drama club participating in band and chorus. She is frequently on the high honor roll and came in second place for the school spelling bee. Outside of school, Ilse is involved in cheerleading, indoor/outdoor soccer, horseback riding, her church and church youth group. Her favorite subject is English and she plans to be a registered nurse.
The high school honoree is senior Meghan Roberts, daughter of Ken and Susan Roberts of Portland. Meghan is a busy young lady participating in various school sports and clubs, including, volleyball, basketball, softball, Student Council, Interact Club, Yearbook staff, Spanish Club, Pep band, chorus, Sources of Strength, Tap n' Toes Performing Arts and helps with the school musicals. She is also the vice president of the band, business manager of the Brocton Review, and secretary of the Interact Club. Outside of school, Meghan performs community service projects with the Interact Club, Slapshot Leadership program, blood donor, holds lifeguard and first aid certificates, and volunteers for the Brocton Booster Club. In addition to all the above, Meghan is also an honor roll student. Upon graduating from high school, she plans to attend Edinboro University to study speech pathology and audiology and then to move somewhere warm.
