Twenty years ago - 1992

Sally Mierzwa, registered nurse at the Westfield Health Care Center, was recently selected by the employees of the facility as the Employee of the Year for 1991 from among 11 other candidates, each of whom had been an Employee of the Month in that same year. Employed with the facility since March 1991, Sally is responsible for running a 40-bed geriatric unit as well as the supervision of her staff. Her demeanor and approach with respect to the care needs of the residents and the professional needs of her staff made her an exceptional choice for this honor.

Thirty years ago - 1982

Edmund Van Den Vouver of Dunkirk has been appointed chairman of the 129th annual Pioneer Hook & Ladder Co. No. 1 ball. Dunkirk's Hook & Ladder Co. is the oldest active volunteer fire company in New York State, organized in 1853. Mr. Van Den Vouver has been a member for the past 22 years.

Forty years ago - 1972

A vacant portion of the third floor of Fredonia's Village Hall is being put to good use as headquarters of the newly-organized local unit of the Civil Air Patrol.

Fifty years ago - 1962

Many area residents were on hand for the grand opening of the $49,500 combination community building, fire hall, town and village offices in Cherry Creek.
