March 6, 2012
The OBSERVER

JAMESTOWN - Alan Friedman will present "Catching Sunlight," an exploration of the technical and aesthetic challenges of photographing the sun, at 7 p.m. on March 8 in the Katharine Jackson Carnahan Center Theater on Jamestown Community College's Jamestown Campus.

The program, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by JCC's Celebrating Science speakers series and the Roger Tory Peterson Institute.

Friedman, who is considered an expert astrophotographer, takes high resolution photos of the sun, planets, and stars from a less-than-ideal location in his downtown Buffalo backyard. During his presentation, he will share his adventures and the techniques he has developed for making accurate photographic portraits of the sun. His images can be viewed at www.avertedimagination.com.
