An award has been established in memory of Phil McGan, former OBSERVER reporter and Dunkirk native, by the ARRL Board of Directors and New Hampshire Amateur Radio Association. Mr. McGan was an active and enthusiastic ham radio operator and dedicated volunteer for the cause of amateur radio. The award has been named the Philip J. McGan Memorial Silver Antenna Award.

Thirty years ago - 1982

Matthew J. Dorogi, a ninth-grade student at Brocton Central School, is the regional winner in the Space Shuttle Student Involvement Project. Matthew and Brocton earth science teacher Steven E. Johnston will travel to the Goddard Space Flight Center near Washington later this month to attend a Space Shuttle Symposium sponsored by NASA.

Forty years ago - 1972

Pvt. Denise M. D'Arcy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul G. D'Arcy, 15 Adams St., Silver Creek has completed eight weeks of basic training at the Women's Army Corps Training Center, Fort McClellan, Ala.

Fifty years ago - 1962

Mr. and Mrs. William L. Koch have returned to their home in Harrysbourg after spending a month in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. They attended the U.S. Brewers Association 100th Anniversary Convention held at Bal Harbour, where Mr. Koch was named a director of the association.
