The Dunkirk VFW team of the BCA 8-Ball Pool League took second place out of eight teams in Las Vegas for the opportunity to compete in the 2012 BCAPL National 8-Ball Championships against pool players from around the world. The Jamestown Savings Bank Ice Arena will host the first annual special hockey extravaganza this weekend.
This tournament was created with the direct assistance of the American Special Hockey Association and its president Mr. Mike Hickey.
With more than 80 teams in 50 organizations, American Special Hockey Programs have been established in more than 30 cities in the United States. The goal of special hockey is to give people with physical and developmental disabilities the chance to play the sport of ice hockey in a suitable environment tailored to match individual skill levels.
Special hockey exists for the enrichment of the athlete with a developmental disability.
Games begin Friday at 2 p.m. and continue throughout the weekend.
The opening ceremonies for the tournament will commence at 6 p.m. Friday.
The season will begin for the women on Wednesday, May 2, at Hillview. Tee-off is scheduled for 10 a.m.
The league is open to women golfers of all kinds.
A short meeting and a "Dutch Treat Pizza Party" will be held after golf.

Former Thursday Night Men's Golf League to
An organizational meeting for the former Thursday Night Men's Golf League at Sugar Hill Golf Course will be held Saturday, April 7, at 2 p.m.
The meeting will be held at the golf course for all golfers interested in the new league, which will be played on Wednesdays, beginning May 2.
Anyone interested in joining an established league is encouraged to contact Dan Griffin at 785-7546, or Sugar Hill at 326-4653.
Tryouts for the 2012-13 Dunkirk-Fredonia high school hockey team will be held at the Steele Hall Ice Arena on Sunday, March 25, from 4-5 p.m.
All interested players must attend. If a player is unable to attend, they must be excused in order to be considered for the team.
Any eighth grader interested in playing must pass the New York State physical fitness test if selected for the team.
Tryouts will be $10. If possible, players should bring a home and away jersey with a name on the back.
