In a 3-1 vote, the Dunkirk Common Council confirmed Mayor Margaret Wuerstle's appointment of former Mayor Gilbert W. Snyder Sr. to the post of city personnel administrator, a $27,500 a year position. Third Ward Councilman Mark Speziale cast the lone negative vote against the confirmation who also questioned whether the personnel administrator's post is even needed.

Thirty years ago - 1982

Buffalo Bills' linebacker Chris Keating was the guest speaker at the Father-Son communion breakfast hosted by the Holy Name Society of Holy Trinity Parish. During a question and answer period, Keating stated that the Buffalo Bills will "definitely be returning to the Fredonia Campus for summer training camp. The Bills were extremely pleased with the treatment they received by the community."

Forty years ago - 1972

Sgt. John R. Bentley of the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Department, has announced he will seek the Republican nomination for sheriff, a position from which Sheriff Merle A. Campaign is retiring this year.

Fifty years ago - 1962

Mrs. William Pierce has been installed as president of the Fredonia Fire Department Auxiliary. Mrs. Harry Davis is vice president.
