Fatal motor vehicle accident in Allegany County

New York State Police are investigating a one-car fatal motor vehicle accident in the town of Amity that occurred early Wednesday morning.

The vehicle's operator, James L. Scotchmer, 49 of Scio, was southbound on Back River Road when his vehicle exited the east shoulder of the road and struck a tree stump. The operator was transported to Jones Memorial Hospital in Wellsville by the Amity Rescue Squad where he later died as a result of the injuries he sustained in the accident.

Fredonia Police Department

Steven C. Siracuse, 20, of Angola was charged with having an open container and unlawful possession of alcohol under 21 on March 24. At 12:03 a.m. police were assisting at 7 Central Ave. for a separate incident when they observed Siracuse carrying a cup containing alcohol. He was released on an appearance ticket.

Bradley Ford, 19, of Victor was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief on March 24. Police were called at 3:28 a.m. for suspicious person at the intersection of Day Street and Lambert Avenue. Upon arrival, police found a street sign bent. Ford confessed to the damage and said he would pay for the costs. He was released on an appearance ticket.

Brandon M. Renckens, 19, of Chautauqua Road was charged with violating the sewer ordinance on March 24. Police observed Renckens urinating on the east side of Darwin's Fitness at 1:35 a.m. He was released on an appearance ticket.

Brian K. Eller, 41, of Ripley was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana on March 24. Police observed a vehicle parked behind 35 Water St. with an odor of marijuana coming from inside. Eller had a marijuana pipe and .05 grams of marijuana in his possession. His passenger, Lindsey A. Hinger, 24, of Clymer had an open bottle of wine. She was charged with having an open container. Both were released on appearance tickets.

Kevin T. Swoger, 32, of Erie, Pa. was charged with third-degree assault and acting in a manner to injure a child less than 17 on March 26. He was brought in to Fredonia Police by New York State Police on an active bench warrant from June. Swoger was released on $1,000 bail.
