Twenty years ago - 1992

The speed limit in the hamlet of Smith Mills in the town of Hanover was reduced on King Road from 55 mph to 35 mph. The reduction was the second approved for the small residential area located in the southern portion of the township between Silver Creek and Forestville. The area was the site of a tragic accident involving a young boy last year. Other accidents have been reported in the area over the past several years.

Thirty years ago - 1982

A committee headed by Dunkirk High School principal John J. Mancuso has selected three juniors as "Outstanding Bilingual Students" to be given special recognition at the annual banquet in celebration of "Bilingual Education Week." They are: Luis Fred, Excellence in Athletics; Julio DeJesus, Excellence in Leadership; and Angelo Rosario, Excellence in Scholarship.

Forty years ago - 1972

In recognition of his accomplishments and efforts in advancing the objectives of the Dunkirk Rotary Club, the organization has named Henry F. Olivieri "Rotarian of the Year."

Fifty years ago - 1962

Leonard Aldrich of Fredonia has been elected president of the Fredonia Boosters Association. He succeeds Paul Salhoff, who was the group's first president.
