HERKIMER - The Dunkirk Lady Marauders dropped a pair of games Tuesday in the Breast Cancer Awareness Tournament.
In the opening game of the day, Dunkirk fell to Kellenberg, 10-2.
The school from Long Island held the Lady Marauders to just one extra base hit as Alayna Carlson doubled.
Trailing 4-0 in the fourth inning, Dunkirk sent the tying run to the plate with one out, but was unable to cash in.
In the second game, Aldyn Carlson pitched a gem against an AA school in a 3-1 defeat to Guilderland.
Carlson gave up two earned runs as she struck out seven and walked two.
Offensively, Kelsey Drummond had two hits, including an RBI in the third inning. Brittany Collins also added two hits and Samantha Thompson doubled in a losing effort.
"This is the reason why we go," Dunkirk coach John Sliwa said of facing strong competition. "The idea is Herkimer is four hours from everywhere. The best teams in the state go there and that's why we chose to go there. Competition is always very good. We faced some big schools. It's nice to see what everyone else has. That's what these non-league games are for. I thought we did a nice job. The kids are coming along."
