'Combating Season Allergies' to be

presented Thursday

A class, "Combating Sea-sonal Allergies," will be presented at 7 p.m. Thursday at Herbs For Life, 69 W. Main St., Fredonia. Dr. Aaron Smith, N.D., will present the program on natural modalities and therapies to help relieve seasonal allergy symptoms. Smith's practice, Trillium Family Naturo-pathic, is in Jamestown.

The cost of the class is $5. Space is limited; call 679-464 to reserve a seat.

Local Red Cross Chapter responds to help apartment fire

victims in Falconer

The Southwestern NY American Red Cross Disaster Action Team (DAT) responded to provide disaster relief following an apartment fire early Tuesday in Falconer.

DAT volunteers Bruce and Sarah Swanson of Bemus Point and Phil Baker of Jamestown were on scene to provide the initial disaster assistance. Temporary housing, clothing, and meals are services typically offered to address emergency needs. The local Red Cross chapter will continue working with the clients and their recovery process if additional services or referrals are necessary.

All disaster assistance offered by the American Red Cross is complimentary and made possible by generous contributions from the American people and residents of Chautauqua County. The United Way organizations of Chautauqua County also provide financial support to the local Red Cross mission.

SUNY Fredonia rolls out 'Relay for Life' Saturday

More than 400 SUNY Fredonia students, faculty and staff will join together at Relay for Life, an annual fundraiser that raises money for the American Cancer Society, beginning Saturday, at 6 p.m.

More than 45 teams of students and volunteers will take turns walking around the indoor track; each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times of the event, which concludes Sunday at 6 a.m.

Registration, which includes a $20 fee, begins Saturday at 5 p.m. The event is sponsored by Colleges Against Cancer.

Free movie night set at Matteson Kempo Karate

Matteson Kempo Karate will be showing "We Bought a Zoo" on Friday free of charge.

The event will be hosted at the karate studio located at 355 Central Ave. suite 10 Fredonia from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Free refreshments will be provided by Dunkirk Mary's Deli, Dunkin' Donuts and the television is donated by Rent-A-Center. Family Video will be supplying the movie.

Matteson Kempo Karate will have adult staff on duty for adequate supervision. Parents must sign the children in and out.

Towel Bingo Sunday

A Towel Bingo, sponsored by the Versailles Ladies Auxiliary, will be held Sunday from 2 to 4:30 p.m. (rain or shine) at the CIRV Fire Hall on 12879 Route 438, Irving.

There will be refreshments, door prizes, a theme basket raffle and/or a 50-50 raffle. Doors open at 1 p.m.

Sen. Young to appear on Senior Report

Senior Report with Reed Powers will have Catharine M. Young as the guest on Saturday's television program. Young is the senator for the New York State 57th senate district. The live, call-in program airs from 9 to 10 a.m. on Saturdays. Individuals may call 753-5225 during that time with questions, comments or a shout-out. The program is rebroadcast each day at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. for some communities.
