Twenty years ago - 1992
More than 120 employees attended the Brooks Memorial Hospital Employee Recognition Dinner where Frances Cole, R.N., of Dunkirk was honored as "Employee of the Year." She recently retired after 19 years of service, and most recently had worked in the ambulatory surgery unit opened in 1986. Awards also were presented to Martha Gens for 35 years of service; and Janet Arntz and Carol Kozlowski, for 30 years.
Thirty years ago - 1982
Calendar Girl for the month of April is Nancy H. Nixon, 18, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alastair Nixon of 227 W Main St., Westfield. Active in sports, she has played on the girls' softball and volleyball teams and was named a Chautauqua County All-Star in volleyball. Nancy plans to pursue a career in social work at either Ithaca College or the University of Massachusetts.
Forty years ago - 1972
Construction of the new McDonald's Restaurant on Route 60 in Fredonia is expected to start in a week, a company spokesman said. It will take three to four months to complete.
Fifty years ago - 1962
Joel C. Millonzi, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Millonzi, 82 East Main St., Fredonia won a second place trophy in the New York State finals of a dramatic oratory debate tournament held in Albany. Joel represented Canisius High School in Buffalo, where he is a junior.
