Francis X. McDonough Sr., 82, of Fredonia passed away on Sunday morning (April 22, 2012) at Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk. Son of the late Patrick J. and Margaret (King) McDonough, he was born on Jan. 24, 1930 in Boston, Ma.
Mr. McDonough retired from the U.S. Army in 1977 in the grade of Sergeant Major; having completed 30 years of service, serving in two wars, the Korean and Vietnam Wars, and numerous other assignments abroad and within the continental U. S. Subsequently, he retired from the NY State Department of Labor in 1992 as a Disabled Veterans Outreach Counselor.
Survivors include one daughter; Patricia (Palmer) Mays; one son, Francis X. (Voula) McDonough, Jr.; two grandsons: Sean (Amanda) Mays and Christopher McDonough; one great-grandson, Collin Mays; one great grand-daughter, Caroline Mays; and two brothers Patrick J. McDonough of Braintree, Ma; and John (Dorothy) McDonough of Sagamore Beach, Ma.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Laura (Bonasera) McDonough, whom he married on Feb. 16, 1952 at the Post Chapel, Edgewood Arsenal, Edgewood Md, and who passed away Oct, 25, 2008; one daughter Mary Ann McDonough, who passed away June 29, 2005; and his sister, Mary P. McDonough.
Mr. McDonough held memberships in many national fraternal and military organizations. Locally, he was a member of Post 1017, VFW; Charles Tinley Memorial Post 142, DAV; Chapter 459, Vietnam Veterans of American; Council 7921, Knights of Columbus; Retired Public Employees Association; and the NYS Public Employees Federation.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at the McGraw-Kowal Fun-eral Home. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Arlington National Cemetery, in Arlington, Va. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Army Emergency Relief Society, 200 Stovall St., Room 5-N-13, Alexandria, Va. 22332-0600.
