Accidents lead to charges
Tina M. Loveland, 44, of West Second Street, Dunkirk was charged with failure to yield the right of way at a stop sign following an accident Monday. At 3:19 p.m. Loveland was stopped at a stop sign at Eagle Street and West Second Street. Loveland said she proceeded into the intersection and collided with a vehicle driven by Helen M. Cogliano, 57, of Central Avenue, Dunkirk.
Louis J. Snyder, 25, of Irving was charged with following too closely after an accident on Central Avenue Monday. At 1:30 p.m. Snyder was traveling north on Central Avenue when he struck a vehicle from behind. William Lee Nichols, 26, of Route 60, Cassadaga was stopped at the red light at Central Avenue and Fourth Street when his vehicle was struck by Snyder. No injuries were reported. Nichols was ticketed for operating a motor vehicle with no registration.
Town employee injured operating road grader
CHARLOTTE A Town of Charlotte employee was injured Tuesday while operating a road grader.
Around 7 a.m., the Chautauqua County Sher-iff's Office was dispatched to the scene of a personal injury accident on Swanson Road. Timothy L. Cobb Jr., 26, of Cassadaga, had been operating a road grader for the Town of Charlotte when the machine apparently stalled and rolled backward into a ditch on the east side of Swanson Road.
Cobb was transported to Brooks Memorial Hospital for a reported back injury. Chautauqua County Hazmat responded to the scene for a reported diesel fuel spill from the involved machine. Sinclairville and Cassadaga fire companies also assisted at the scene.
Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Office
OLEAN Friday at 1 p.m., an Olean woman was charged with welfare fraud and other charges.
It is alleged Tara J. Link, 29, of Olean, failed to report income from Unemploy-ment Insurance Benefits and from a job to the Cattaraugus County Department of Social Services from July through December 2011. Link reportedly received $4,800 in food stamps, cash assistance and Medicaid for which she was not entitled.
Link was charged with third-degree welfare fraud, third-degree grand larceny and one count of first-degree offering a false instrument for filing. Link was issued an appearance ticket for May 15.
LEON On April 18, a Town of Leon man was charged with criminal mischief and other charges after a domestic dispute.
Around 12:30 a.m., it is alleged Tyler Daniels, 21, of Leon, broke a cell phone and a windshield of a vehicle belonging to a third party while engaged in a domestic dispute. It is further alleged Daniels resisted apprehension and was charged with resisting arrest in addition to third- and fourth-degree criminal mischief. He was arraigned in Leon and sent to the Cattaraugus County Jail in lieu of $500 bail.
