Twenty years ago - 1992

Student of the Week is Alicia Smith, 17-year-old daughter of Gary and Roxanna Smith of Webster Road, Portland. A senior at Brocton Central School, she has been very active in band, Key Club, Brocton Review, and has received the Principal's Card for academic excellence and attendance. Alicia has played basketball, volleyball and soccer in high school. She was selected Miss Portland 1991 for the Stockton Gala Days.

Thirty years ago - 1982

Employees at the Kraft plant in Dunkirk have surpassed their previous safety record. March 28, 1982 marked the second year that they have worked without a lost-time accident. This two-year safety record represents more than 1,250,000 man hours worked without a lost-time accident. The Dunkirk Kraft plant employs 330 workers.

Forty years ago - 1972

Rep. James F. Hastings (38th Dist.-NY) said today that the Department of the Army has awarded four-year Reserve Officer Training Corps scholarships to five high school students in the 38th Congressional District. Robert Guenther of Fredonia and Eric Tarbox of Collins Center were among the recipients.

Fifty years ago - 1962

Elmer Langer, history teacher at Silver Creek Central School, has been named president of the Silver Creek Chapter of the American Field Service.
