Fred Fest artist fears unfounded

SUNY Fredonia Director of Public Relations Michael Barone dispelled fears the Fred Fest headliner Lupe Fiasco would be unable to perform this weekend at SUNY Fredonia's Annual Fred Fest music show due to double booking. According to Barone the show will go on beginning at 3 p.m. Saturday at Steele Hall Field House. Lupe Fiasco will be playing a show at Tufts University, Mass., in the afternoon before coming to Fredonia for his evening appearance.

WACS seeks vets for honorary diplomas

The Westfield Teachers' Association is looking for names of American veterans who have graduated or received an honorary diploma from Westfield Academy and Central School.

The Westfield Teachers' Association is creating a Veterans' Wall of Honor in memory of Sgt. Kevin White who was killed in action one year ago. White was a proud graduate of Westfield and this Veterans' Board will be a fitting tribute to this fallen hero.

Anyone wishing to submit a veteran's name needs to fill out a form available in the school's district office or reception area. Forms are also available at the Patterson Library, Westfield American Legion JW Rogers Post 327, Westfield VFW Post 6764, Westfield Moose Club, and Calarco's Italian Restaurant.

The Sgt. Kevin White Veterans' Wall of Honor will be unveiled in the Westfield School lobby across from the auditorium in time for Veteran's Day, Nov. 11. Names of American veterans will continue to be added to the board throughout the future.

Pet Pantry to hold chicken barbecue Sunday

The Pet Pantry will have a chicken barbecue on Sunday from noon to 4 p.m., or until sold out, at the Moose Club, 296 Lake Shore Drive West in Dunkirk. There will be a gas grill raffle, a 50/50 raffle and a jar raffle. Tickets are $9 and are available at the door or by calling 785-5183.

First smoking cessation class Thursday

The next four-week session of smoking cessation classes are planned for May at Brooks Memorial Hospital. They will be held May 3, 10, 17 and 23 at 7 p.m. in the Medical Library. For more information, contact BMH Health and Wellness Nurse Theresa Schrantz at 363-7293.

Blood cancers workshop May 9

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society invites community practice nurses to An Update on Myelofibrosis, Polycythemia Vera & Essential Thrombocythemia (MPNs): An Update on Diagnosis & Treatment. The program will be held May 9 at The White Inn, 52 E. Main St., Fredonia at 5:30 p.m. The program will be presented by Carlos Vigil, MD, of Roswell Park Cancer Institute. This free program will include will include a complimentary dinner. Pre-registration is required on or before May 4.
