John J. Granata of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, formerly of Fredonia, NY died April 25, 2012 after a lengthy illness. He was 89.
Born Jan. 24, 1923 to Alfred and Bertha Granata, he graduated from Fredonia High School and Tri-State College in Angola, Indiana as a civil engineer.
John also served in Germany during World War II, receiving the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.
He worked for Elmhurst Construction Co. of Pennsylvania, which took him to the Dominican Republic where he met his wife, AnaRosa.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two children, Alfred (Eloisa) Granata of the Dominican Republic and Marie Ann Granata-Bernal of Bellview, Fla.; six grandchildren, John, Alfonso and Gabriella Granata and Joann, Melissa and Anna Victoria Labarca. He is survived by his sister, Marie Kusneske and his brother, Joseph (Stella) Granata, both of Fredonia; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister, Bertha (Gilbert) Granata Day and several nieces and a nephew.
Funeral services and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held in the Dominican Republic.
