Twenty years ago - 1992

At a recent meeting of the John W. Dill American Legion Auxiliary Unit 434 of Brocton, it was announced that the unit's project, a Liberty Bell made of Legion poppies, won first prize at the county meeting of the Legion Auxiliaries. The bell was made by members Nancy Hazelton and Nancy White, who spent several hours on the project. The Liberty Bell will be shown at the 8th District Spring Conference in Ellicottville on May 9. If it wins there, it is eligible for state competition.

Thirty years ago - 1982

The Dunkirk Club will have its annual "Member of the Year" dinner party May 15 with George C. Fitzer as the guest of honor. Mr. Fitzer has been a member since 1958 and has chaired various committees along with serving the club as secretary, treasurer and president. The program following dinner will include a roast of Mr. Fitzer by relatives and close friends. Henry Draggett will serve as toastmaster.

Forty years ago - 1972

Encouraged by the success of the recent open house at the Michael C. Rockefeller Arts Center at Fredonia State University College, the Lake Shore Association for the Arts has begun plans for incorporation. At present, over 100 membership applications have been received.

Fifty years ago - 1962

Construction of the modern one-floor New York State Employment Service office has begun on the southeast corner of Lake Shore Drive West and Dove Street in Dunkirk.
