Fredonia State: Celebrating the Hefner era

May 3, 2012
The OBSERVER

Area residents can stop by and offer their thanks and best wishes to a longtime community friend and supporter this afternoon.

At the end of June, Fredonia State President Dr, Dennis Hefner will be retiring from the duties he has held for 16 years. Through his tenure, Fredonia State has seen a number of changes that have led to tremendous growth at the university.

Under his leadership, enrollment has increased, academic programs have expanded, and the campus always seems to be humming with construction activity.

Today's event takes place from 2 to 5 p.m. at the natatorium lobby in Steele Hall. It is a free reception, which will be open to the campus and the public.

Also receiving honors will be Dennis' wife, Jan. "Dennis and Jan know the appreciation for them is deeply felt, but I wonder if they really understand the depth and breadth of it throughout the campus and community, and SUNY itself," said Karen West, senior director of development.

The Hefner legacy is one our region will celebrate for years to come. Today, we can thank them personally.
