Fredonia Rotary selected Mackenzie Schanzlin and Michael Fridmann as Students of the Month.
Schanzlin is the daughter of Nancie Hermann. She is currently a senior at Fredonia Central School, and ranks within the top 10 percent of her class. Schanzlin has received the Principal's Award every quarter of her high school career. For one of her business classes, she is participating in an internship to help her gain experience for her future career. Schanzlin also taking an independent study art class. She will graduate in June with an Advanced Regents Diploma.
Schanzlin has actively participated in sports every year of high school. As a freshman she was a member of the JV volleyball team and the JV girls' track team. Sophomore year she joined the Varsity swim team and continued to swim her junior and senior year as well. She has been awarded the Most Improved Player, Coaches and Most Valuable Player Awards in swimming, throughout her years of participation. Schanzlin was also the swim team captain her senior year. She is a member of the golf team as well and received a Coaches Award last year.

Mackenzie Schanzlin
Schanzlin has great passion for water sports, which is why she became a lifeguard her sophomore year of high school. With this certification she has lifeguarded at Fredonia High School for the boy's swim team and worked for the Winter Recreational Program, teaching children to swim as well. In the summer, Schanzlin works at the Dunkirk Beaches as a lifeguard.
Schanzlin has been an editor for the school yearbook her junior and senior years of high school. She has worked on the sports, faculty and senior sections of the yearbook. She was also a member of art club throughout middle and high school. She had one of her pieces displayed in the Adam's Art Gallery last spring.
Schanzlin tries to volunteer as much as she can. Throughout the past few years, she has raised money for multiple sclerosis and walked 5 miles on the day of the MS Walk. She also helps to plan and organize Health and Wellness Day at her school. This day is done to educate students about a healthy lifestyle and ways to stay active each day.
Schanzlin has been accepted to SUNY Fredonia, Gannon University, St. Bonaventure, Niagara University and Penn State. Future plans are aimed at a career in marketing.
Fridmann is the son of Mary and Dave Fridmann. He is a senior at Fredonia High School and is currently taking three AP courses psychology, English and music theory. Fridmann was recognized as a "Commended Student" by the Nation Merit Scholarship Corporation and has been on the Honor Roll on and off throughout high school. Fridmann believes he is ranked 15th in his class as of last year and has an overall average of about 91 percent.
Fridmann enjoys playing music. He plays in the orchestra and likes to compose and record somewhat experimental music at home. He performed a solo for violin at NYSSMA once.
Currently Fridmann is an editor at the yearbook and he focuses on grammar, spelling and accuracy. Learning is very important to him (as he believes it should be to everyone) and he tries to do his best when it comes to school.
Fridmann has been accepted into SUNY Fredonia, where he plans on going to school while he works for his dad as an assistant sound recording engineer, and he has just recently been selected as a candidate for the Honors Program there.
