Twenty years ago - 1992

Gillian Steinberg, an English major at Fredonia State University College, won second prize and $200 in the first annual Holocaust Essay Contest sponsored by Rockland Community College of SUNY. Her essay was entitled, "A Granddaughter's Confusion." Ms. Steinberg is the daughter of Theodore and Phyllis Steinberg of Fredonia. She graduated from Fredonia High School in 1991.

Thirty years ago - 1982

Jamestown Electric Supply Inc. will sponsor an open house today at 88 Lake Shore Drive East, Dunkirk. Local electricians and maintenance personnel will be introduced to new products and changes in the electrical industry. The newly opened firm is managed by Larry DeJonghe and will serve the local area with a complete line of wholesale electric supplies.

Forty years ago - 1972

Golden forsythia and other shrubs have been planted at the Salvation Army Citadel by members of the Dunkirk Garden Club civic beautification committee. The landscaping will be a three-year project for the club.

Fifty years ago - 1962

Judith Jeffrey, a junior at Fredonia Central School, has been selected to be a member of the Pre-College Science Center sponsored by the National Science Foundation at the University of Bridgeport, Conn. She is one of 80 from the United States to be selected. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Jeffrey, 197 E. Main St.
