Twenty years ago - 1992

The replica 16th Century sailing ship Sea Lion, stripped of her masts and top hamper, is shown hanging in slings suspended from a 100-ton crane at the Bemus Point ferry landing on Chautauqua Lake, ready to be moved to her new base. The vessel is to be carried by truck to Barcelona, where she will have her bottom painted before re-launching. She will then be towed to Dunkirk for a refit before going on to Buffalo and her eventual destination of the New York Harbor for the Columbus voyage quincentennial on July 4.

Thirty years ago - 1982

Student of the Week is Rebecca L. McNulty, 17, daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. Edward McNulty of 54 Elm St., Westfield and a student at Westfield Academy and Central School. She served as president of her junior class and is the recipient of the 1981 George Plumb Memorial Scholarship, Regents scholarship and National Merit Scholarship. Rebecca plans to attend Wells College.

Forty years ago - 1972

Harry Hayward, in recognition of 28 years of membership in the Fenner Hose Company of the Fredonia Fire Department, was honored by the company at its annual banquet, held at the Fireside Manor.

Fifty years ago - 1962

A poem by Charles D. Lippman, Dunkirk High School senior honor student, has been accepted for publication by the National High School Poetry Association.
