Northern Chautauqua Catholic School recently celebrated its Athletic Program’s achievements and efforts for the 2011-2012 school year, including its first ever Diocesan Boys Basketball Championship. Special guest speaker for the evening was Scott Kowalski, Certified Baseball Umpire. Scholarships were presented to Quinn Bankoski and Jack Penharlow from proceeds of the Annual Peg Smith Tournament which is held each year as a fundraiser for the school’s sports program. These awards were presented by Mrs. Smith’s daughter, Becky Conti and Mrs. Smith’s granddaughters, Jennifer Conti and Rachel Bruzee. Pinehurst ParTee Girls - June Beers shot the low gross score for the night with a 46, followed by Lori Foster and Amy North with 50 and Tammy Ahrens with a 51. Beers also took the low net with a 23, Ahrens had a 30 and Jill Muck and Sue Slate finished with 31.

The longest putt on No. 6 went to Beers. The drive closest to the stake on No. 2 was shot by Diane Enser, closest to the green on the third shot (No. 8) was Brooke Sheesley and closest to the pin on No. 7 was Wilma Benjamin.

Hillview

The Women Who Golf For Fun had another practice round Wednesday. Shooting low was Theresa Leone, second place held by Julie Ortendahl and coming in third was Phyllis East. The women will play again next Wednesday, meeting at 9:30 a.m., teeing off at 10 a.m. Their season will officially open Wednesday, June 6, meeting at 8:30 a.m. and teeing off at 9 a.m. Any woman golfer who would like to join them is encouraged to do so by joining the women at these times.

Tuesday Night Men's Golf League - Tim Bulger 35, Steve Wintersteen 36, Todd Fenton 38, Rod Lind 38, Tim Miller 38 and Ron Mason 39. Closest to the pin: Scott Jagoda (No. 15). Skins: Joe Mangine (No. 12, birdie), Tim Bulger (No. 15, birdie) and Kent Marsh (No. 17, birdie).

Vineyards

Tuesday Night Men's League - Low gross: Ross Conti 34, Jess Marino 40, Luke Johnson 41, Mike Rosario 43. Untied skins: Ross Conti (Nos. 4 and 6), Scott Kingsley (No. 5). Closest to the Pin: Peter Parker.

Wednesday Morning Ladies Purple Posse League - League play for May 16th: This week's game was mystery holes. Winners were Marcia Casella, Janet Guenther (second place) and Linda Dejoe (third place). Purple Posse will be teeing off at 10 a.m. May 23. All skill levels are welcome.

Youth Baseball

Fredonia Wright League

American Legion 7 Firemen 1

Tyler Winchell led a balanced Legion offense with two hits and four RBI's. Jack Penharlow and Alec Schrader both tallied multiple hits while D.J. Apthorp and Damian Skelly each hit a triple.

Seth and Alec Schrader combined for 13 strikeouts allowing just two hits.

The Firemen hits came off the bats of Jake Green (double) and Ben Kyte (single). Pitching duties were shared by Lucas Green and Kyte who combined to seat eight batters.

Hart Development 3, DFT 1

Chris Buchanan's two-run double broke a 1-1 tie to lead Hart. Brandon Wallace had two hits as did Buchanan. Lucas Voss picked up the win (eight strikeouts) with stellar relief from Tyler Cloos.

DFT's two hits came from Andrew Conti (double) and Cal Pryzbyz. Reid Tarnowski took the loss, allowing four hits and striking out 10. Conti also pitched.

Fredonia Hathaway League

Fredonia PBA vs. Blasdell Pizza

Fredonia PBA's outstanding hitters were Ashton Hallmark and Keegan Whitfield. Simon Price and Sam Kawski were their defensive players of the game.

Offensive stars for Blasdell Pizza were Jack Fortna and Sam Schrantz. Asher McNatt and Matthew Lotter offered help on the field as the team's defensive leaders.

Brocton/Portland Little League

Rexford Services Inc. 13, Westfield Nursery 3

Rexford Services was led by a strong pitching performance on the mound by Charlie Rexford, who pitched a complete game striking out 10 batters.

The Rexford hitting attack was lead by Rexford who belted three hits, including a triple. Josh Powell slammed three singles and had a spectacular diving catch in center field to save two runs. Danny Siragusa, Nate SanGeorge and Patrick Newell each pounded out two singles. David Miller added a double and two RBIs in the win.

For Westfield Nursery, Jzon Matve had an inside-the-park home run. Eric Fermier was a defensive standout behind the plate.

Dunkirk Minor Softball

Kosciuszko Club 3,

Lake Shore Savings 2.

The Dog House offense was led by Maya Rosblock, Alyssa Salerno and Rachel Glowniak, all having multiple hits. Jailene Jiminez added the game-winning RBI.

The heavy hitters for Lake Shore Savings were Georgia Roberts, Ashley Gotoka, Anna Pokoj and Summer Clark as they each contributed multiple hits.
