GOWANDA - Mabel E. Bowers, 88, of Point Peter Road passed away Sunday (May 20, 2012) at home.
Born Mabel E. Mowry on Dec. 14, 1923 in Warwick Co. Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Allan and Lena (Douglas) Mowry.
A homemaker, housewife and mother Mabel worked at various places in the Gowanda area including The former Moench Tanning Co.(a subsidiary of Brown Shoe), Knowles and Fisher and The Gowanda Pscychiatric Center.

Mabel was a member of the Gowanda Free Methodist Church.
On April 20, 1920 in Gowanda, NY Mabel married Edward Bowers. Ed passed away May 9, 2002.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Lois) Westburg and a son Alan (Rose) Bowers both of Gowanda; 14 grandchildren, 26 great grand and three great great grandchildren. Mabel is also survived by a sister Mrs. William (Margaret) Hojnacki of Gowanda and nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, Mabel is preceded in death by her companion and brother-in-law who for 33 years helped care for her husband who was medically confined at home. Harold "Cliff" Bowers was not only family but company for Mabel during difficult times. Clifford passed way April 6, 2011. Mabel was also preceded in death by a daughter, Anita Naples, and brothers Allan Mowry Jr. and William Champagne.

Schindler director) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday May 22, 2012 where funeral services will be held Wednesday May 23, 2012 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in the Jolls Cemetery. Rev. Vern Saile will officiate.
