Twenty years ago - 1992
Jacob Czekanski, son of Michael and Diane Czekanski of 2720 West Lake Road, Silver Creek and a senior at Silver Creek High School, is the Student of the Week. Ranked near the top of his graduating class, he is an active member of the U.S. Army Delayed Entry Program, scheduled to leave for basic training in August. An Eagle Scout with Troop 254 in Dunkirk, Jacob's future plans include attending Rochester Institute of Technology to major in illustration painting.
Thirty years ago - 1982
Timothy Monahan, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Monahan of Dunkirk, won top honors in the Veterans of Foreign Wars "Voice of Democracy" contest on the county level. The Dunkirk High School student received his award during the Chautauqua County Council VFW Convention held recently at the Peacock Lodge and Mayville VFW Post.
Forty years ago - 1972
Laminated wood beams and a wooden deck ceiling are two of the highlights of the new Holy Trinity Church currently under construction on Central Avenue in Dunkirk. The opening is expected in mid-June.
Fifty years ago - 1962
Richard McNeight, of the Barker Hose Company in Fredonia, has been elected president of the Chautauqua County Volunteer Firemen's Association.
