Trolley: Driving spirit of cooperation

Neighboring communities working together. Seems like an easy enough concept, but it does not always work around here.

That's why a proposal - in the early stages - by Fredonia to use its trolley to transport residents from the village to Dunkirk for the Music on the Pier events is quite welcome. According to Fredonia Mayor Steve Keefe, the city has been receptive to the idea.

But just like anything involving neighboring municipalities, what Fredonia gets in terms of revenue from the trolley service, will probably be the deciding factor. "Initially, it seems like there might be a couple minuses, but, especially if it can pay for itself, or create a little revenue, I think it would be great," Trustee Adam Brown said.

That revenue line will not keep Fredonia taxes or water rates from going down. But maybe it can help ease the ever-ongoing border battle with Dunkirk.
