GERRY - Bertha (Shaw) Angle Marquardt, 75, passed peacefully on Sunday, April 1, 2012, with her devoted daughter by her side. She was a resident of the Heritage Village Skilled Nursing Center.
"Bert" was born in East Pharsalia, NY, to Grace Doing and Otto Shaw. She grew up in the Norwich area. She later married her first husband, Earl Angle, who was the boy-next-door and together they relocated to the Buffalo area. Bert had worked for 13 years as an administrative assistant for Brand Names Inc. in Buffalo.
In 1969, Bert married her husband, Donald, and they made their home on Armadillo Street in Dunkirk. For a number of years, Bert worked as a proofreader for the Evening Observer. In her younger years, Bert enjoyed bowling, bingo and playing cards with her many friends. Bert was always helping others, volunteering to drive elderly neighbors to their doctor appointments and bringing them groceries. Although
Bertha suffered from Multiple Sclerosis for 40 years, she never complained and bravely fought the disease until her death.
Bert enjoyed the simple things in life and will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her infectious laugh, her insatiable appetite for seafood, her love of slot machines in Las Vegas and her infamous cheesecake recipe.
Survivors include her daughter, Teresa (Angle) Bialaszewski of Lugoff, SC; three grandchildren, Nick Bialaszewski of Pittsburgh, Pa., Joshua (Kim) Angle and Nichole (Angle) Sayman of Columbia, SC; and four great grandchildren, Ashleigh, Colin, Kalee and Kiera. She is further survived by her sister Ruby (Hugh) Bartlette; and three brothers, Don (Mary), Bill (Barb) and Lynn (Millie) Doing. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to her parents, Bert was predeceased by her husband, Donald F. Marquardt, who died March 1, 1999; her son, James Angle, on April 4, 2004; and her stepfather, Lewis Doing.
