It is a call for all war veterans for Memorial Day.
The Dunkirk Joint Veterans Council is welcoming all local veterans to join it in this year's Memorial Day 2012 services and parade to participate. The purpose of the services and parade on Monday is to pay tribute to deceased veterans and those still missing; also to those veterans who are still serving our nation so we may have our freedom.
The Memorial Day Services will commence at 10 a.m. in Memorial Park on Lake Shore Drive West.
The Memorial Day Parade will begin at about 11 a.m.
For all veterans who are able to walk, John Miga, commander American Legion Post 62, has recommended one combined unit/honor guard to be referred to as "All Veterans Honor Guard" to lead our 1st Division.
For all veterans unable to walk and wishing to participate, transportation will be provided by CARTS during the parade and return to Memorial Park will be provided.
CARTS transportation is being provided free of charge to the Dunkirk Joint Veterans Council for our veterans wishing to ride in the Memorial Day Parade. Arrangements have been orchestrated by Paul Abram, CARTS project coordinator.
Driver for Memorial Day 2012 is Anthony Popielarz.
If you are able to join us, contact Leonard Catalano, DJVC Special Affairs Officer at 366-3941.
Specify if you can walk the parade route in our all veterans honor guard or you need to be driven in provided transportation.
