The Collage Performing Arts Center announces the recent achievements of the New York Majestic Senior Dance Team. The team recently traveled to New York City to compete in the Starbound National Dance Championships. The 12 senior team members prepared two routines for the weekend-long competition. The team earned a High Gold award for their jazz dance "Glam." The dance included leaps, jumps and multiple turns with a sassy attitude to earn the team the high gold distinction and first place in their division. The team earned a platinum award for their Pom style dance which emphasized sharp, tight, precision movements, formation changes and visual effects. In the overall awards ceremony the team was honored with the "Best technical skills award."
The team began to prepare for their performance at the competition last July. The team practiced their routines and showmanship during weekly practice sessions and entering many local dance events. The senior team was undefeated in local and regional competitions this year and earned fourth and fifth place at the UDA National Dance Team Championships in February.
In addition to competing at the Starbound Nationals, the team had the opportunity to tour New York City, seeing many of the city's sights and attending the off-Broadway production of "Silence the Musical" which stars Callan Bergmann, a Gowanda High School graduate and former Collage dance student.

The NY Majestics are currently training for the upcoming dance show "Let's Get Glam" held at the SUNY Rockefeller Arts Center, Marvel Theatre on May 31 and June 1 and 2. For tickets, call the college box office at 673-3501.
