St. John the Baptist to celebrate Blessed Virgin Mary

May 26, 2012
The OBSERVER

The Feast of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary will be celebrated at St. John the Baptist (Episcopal) Church.

The Rt. Rev. R. William Franklin, Episcopal bishop of Western New York, will be the chief celebrant at a service starting at 6 p.m.

This celebration recognizes the visitation of the Virgin Mary to her cousin Elizabeth.

According to the scriptures, Elizabeth was also "with child" and when she greeted Mary, "the baby in her womb jumped for joy."

Elizabeth was the mother of John the Baptist, the cousin of Jesus, who prepared the way for the coming of the ministry of Jesus.

All are invited to the worship service and to meet Bishop Franklin.

The public is invited to the worship service and the reception following.
