BUSTI - This afternoon, a vessel exploded and caught fire on Chautauqua Lake in the area of Smith Boys marina. The operators, Thomas Meyers, 43, of Mechanicsburg, Pa., and Stephanie Mummert, 41, of Fairfield, Pa., were able to grab life jackets and jumped off the burning vessel. They were assisted from the water by unknown boaters who were in the area.
Mummert was transported to WCA for burns to the lower leg. Meyers was not injured. The vessel was a total loss.
The Chautauqua County Sheriff, Lakewood-Bemus Police Department, Ashville Fire Department, and Celoron Fire Department, Battalion 3 reported to the scene.
