Twenty years ago - 1992

Three businesses in Chautauqua County were singled out to receive awards from the Small Business Development Center at Jamestown Community College. Presented with the 1992 Small Business Person of the Year Awards were Ron Pacos, owner of Arkwright Printing Co.; Barbara and Steve Strickland, owners of Stricklans Optical Lab in Jamestown and Demetrios "Jamie" Tsirtsakis, owner of Demetri's on the Lake in Dunkirk.

Thirty years ago - 1982

Gary Gugino, a former Fredonia resident, is president and owner of American Telephone Exchange, a new company which is taking advantage of the federal deregulation of the telephone business by providing long distance service for about 350 clients in Las Vegas. Mr. Gugino's firm was the subject of a recent article in the "Review Journal." He is the son of Charles Gugino of Las Vegas and Joann Gugino of Brocton.

Forty years ago - 1972

Ground was broken recently for Liberty National Bank's Dunkirk office, the first construction project to begin in the city's 54.2-acre urban renewal site. The bank site is at the corner of Central Avenue and West Fourth Street, where the Hotel Dunkirk building stood until last year, when it was demolished by the Dunkirk Urban Renewal Agency.

Fifty years ago - 1962

Charles Johnston, junior high science teacher in Fredonia, has been awarded a National Science Foundation Scholarship for the third straight summer and second year in a row at Alfred University.
