Twenty years ago - 1992

A new 40-bed nursing home addition was dedicated recently at the Lake Shore Health Care Center, Routes 5 and 20, in Irving. The new facility was completed at a cost of about $2.2 million and the first patient is expected to be admitted on June 1. State Sen. Jess J. Present (R-Bemus Point) was the guest speaker at the dedication ceremony.

Thirty years ago - 1982

Student of the Week is Jonathan Paul Rizzo, son of John C. and Sandra L. Rizzo of 10850 Temple Road, Dunkirk. A senior at Dunkirk High School, he is treasurer of the National Honor Society and a three-year varsity soccer player. Jonathan has also participated in band, Earth Science and French clubs and JV baseball. His future plans include attending Fredonia State University College to major in geology.

Forty years ago - 1972

The Rev. Thomas Ciolino, pastor of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Silver Creek, has told the OBSERVER, that while he and a committee from the parish are making every effort to keep Mount Carmel School open, the reality seems to be that it will be closed at the end of the school year. The school was established in 1914.

Fifty years ago - 1962

The Rev. Richard H. Baker and G. Patterson Crandall of Westfield have been appointed to the executive council of the Episcopal Diocese of Western New York. They will represent the Chautauqua County Deanery.
