Food vendor to be at city pier Thursday

Members of the Dunkirk Chamber of Commerce will provide a concession stand before and during the first Music on The Pier, which will be Thursday at the Dunkirk City Pier. Chamber volunteers will sell hot dogs, hamburgers, and sausage provided by Big Rick's One Stop.

Music lovers are encouraged to stop down for a bite to eat beginning at 5:30 p.m. All proceeds from the sale will be used to support Chamber of Commerce community activities. Music for the concert will be provided by Jersey, a Bruce Springsteen tribute band

Portland Historical Museum announces summer hours

The Town of Portland Historical Museum will be open Saturdays and Sundays from June 9 until Sept. 9. Visitors are welcome during the hours of noon until 5 pm. The museum will be closed the weekend of June 16-17 as well as the weekend of Aug. 18-19. The museum is located at 6224 E. Main St. (Route 20) in Portland and is an actual railroad depot that was moved in 1967 to its present location from the north end of Central Avenue where it was a local stop on the Pennsylvania Railroad Line for decades. Many artifacts, photographs, and documents some dating back to the Civil War are on display. The museum contains a wealth of information on the roots of the local grape industry and the development of local railroad history as well as the history of the Hamlet of Portland and the Village of Brocton. The admission is free so visit the museum to learn about the local heritage. For more information call Mr. Valentin at 792-4382.

Dunkirk Dunks tickets available for Friday

Pre-sale tickets for Dunkirk Dunks for Donations are available at Matt's News or the main offices of Dunkirk High School or Dunkirk Middle School. All seats are $5. This annual charity basketball game, is at 7 p.m. on Friday at the newly-renovated Dunkirk High School gym. As part of the festivities, a Children's Carnival will be held at the high school from 4 to 6 p.m. Marauder Steel will perform from 5 to 6 p.m. Children's games and activities will be held for a nominal fee.

Dunkirk Democratic committee appointment

During a recent meeting the Dunkirk Democratic Committee (DDC) unanimously chose to add Second Ward Councilman William Rivera as committeeman in a position that was vacant in Ward 2 District 2. Also discussed at the meeting was the DDC Annual Picnic to be held Aug. 8 at Point Gratiot's large pavilion. Anyone wanting additional information on the picnic can call DDC Secretary Don Williams Jr. at 363-7559.
