The Friends of the Dunkirk Free Library has had a busy last few weeks.
The group held a successful pancake breakfast at Applebee's recently. Money raised will be used to purchase a new air conditioner for the Community Computer Room at the library. Members from the group have also worked hard on the landscape surrounding the library by weeding, planting new flowers and mulching.
The Friends are sponsoring Glen Colton's performance in July as part of the Children's Room summer program. Costs for craft projects in the Children's Room are also being paid for by the Friends through funds collected throughout the year.
In conjunction with the library's first Read-In event, on Saturday, June 16, the Friends are also conducting a used book sale in the lower level of the building. The book sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and all proceeds will be used to help the library. Purchase books and other items needed in the future. Hardcover and paperback books are now being collected at all the entrances of the library. No magazines or encyclopedias are needed.
When visiting the Dunkirk Free Library, note the new flower arrangements that adorn the refinished fireplaces along with two new huge clocks that were also purchased by the Friends.
The Friends of the Dunkirk Free Library meet every first Monday of the month. No meetings are held in July and August. The next meeting will be Sept. 10, the second Monday of the month due to Labor Day. New members are always welcome.
Throughout the summer, the Friends will conduct a search for nominations to replace the offices of the president, treasurer and corresponding secretary. Anyone interested in these positions can contact Lenore at 366-8766.
