SOUTH DAYTON - Kaylee L. Mathews has been named valedictorian for Pine Valley Junior/Senior High School's class of 2012. Mathews is the daughter of Neal and Trudy Mathews of South Dayton.
Mathews has earned an academic average of 99.75 percent during her four years at Pine Valley High School. She will graduate with an Advanced Regents Diploma with Honors Distinction and has been on the Honor Roll all four years of high school. Mathews is currently enrolled in the SUNY Fredonia 3:1:3 Program where she has received high academic marks, made Dean's List in her first semester with a 4.0 average and was selected for the SUNY Fredonia Honors Program.
Active in extracurricular activities, Mathews is president of Leo's Club, vice president of National Honor Society, band treasurer and has served as Class President in all but her Senior year. She was chosen for the 2nd team of Business First's 2012 All-WNY Academic Team naming her as one of the 50 most outstanding high school seniors in WNY. She was also selected as Pine Valley's representative for Empire Girls State.

Athletically, Mathews is a strong presence on the Pine Valley girls' volleyball, basketball teams and has played varsity softball for four years. She has been named Ad-Pro Scholar Athlete for volleyball and basketball for the 2011-2012 seasons. In her free time, she enjoys reading and playing travel softball.
Mathews has accepted admission into Rochester Institute of Technology for the fall of 2012 where she will enter the Science Exploration program. RIT has awarded her the Presidential Scholarship and Mathews has accepted an invitation into the Honors Program.
The Pine Valley Class of 2012 salutatorian is Jacob Kohler, son of David and Kristy Kohler of South Dayton.
Kohler has earned an academic average of 97.21 percent during his four years at Pine Valley High School. He will graduate with an Advanced Regents Diploma with Honors Distinction and has been on the honor roll for all four years of high school.
Kohler is a member and president of the National Honors Society and the vice president of the Class of 2012. He is also an active member of student council.
Kohler is an accomplished varsity athlete as well. He is the captain of the Frewsburg Varsity Swimming team where he is a four-year member. Kohler is a two time Section VI champion in the 100-yard back stroke. Kohler has shattered school records in 200-yard individual medley, where he also competed in the state qualifier. He is a six-time CCAA Swimming champion.
In addition to swimming, Kohler was a member of the Pine Valley Varsity Football team. He was honored as an All Western New York Scholar Athlete Honorable Mention.
When Kohler has free time, he enjoys playing basketball and swimming.
Kohler will attend Canisius College in the fall where he will study pre-medicine and be a member of the Men's Swim Team.
