DEWITTVILLE - YMCA Camp Onyahsa held its 4th Take-a-Hike sponsored walk on May 12 at its Dewittville site. Campers, parents, and supporters walked to raise funds for Onyahsa's scholarship programs, by gaining sponsorship. Two hikes were held, one at the Camp's 30-acre main lakefront campus, and another through Onyahsa's 150-acre wooded Darrah Wilderness Preserve.
The hikes gave supporters and families an opportunity to spend quality time walking together on a beautiful day in the woods. In addition to evidence of wildlife, the Wilderness group saw a bald eagle in flight. The hikes also help to support the Camp mission; to foster excellence in development among youth of varied backgrounds, while creating strong friendships among them through healthy outdoors activities.
In addition to funds raised by the hikers, the event was sponsored by Anderson Cleaners, Chautauqua Patrons, The Glatz Agency, Jamestown Savings Bank, Shults Auto Group, Weaver Materiel, JCC Faculty Student Association and Jamestown Community College, Chautauqua Brick Co., Inc., Chautauqua Patrons, Lakeside Cottage Shoppe, and Weinberg Financial Group

The 4th Annual Take-a-Hike walk took place recently at YMCA Camp Onyasha, Dewittville. Campers, parents, and supporters walked to raise funds for Onyahsa’s scholarship programs.
Proceeds raised benefit the Onyahsa scholarship fund, which provides financial assistance to qualifying local youth to attend the Camp's resident and day programs.
These programs begin June 17 and run for eight one-week sessions. Onyahsa also offers year-round youth overnighters, family events, and group use rental opportunities. A similar sponsored hike is planned for May 2013.
For more information on sponsorship opportunities, or the Camp's summer and year-round programs, contact the Jamestown YMCA, 664-2802 ext. 238, office@onyahsa.org, or www.onyahsa.org
