Editor, OBSERVER:
This letter is in regard to an article that appeared in the OBSERVER (June 5) regarding the Silver Creek mayor taking issue with the police chief Memorial Day.
There is enough blame to go around. We have held these services at that location for years and it's been the same story.
This day comes once a year. It's a solemn occasion to honor the men and women who have served their country and are no longer with us. It took me about 10 minutes to go online to find a special-use permit used for the purpose of parades, marathons, walk-a-thons, flea markets, civic or cultural events utilizing a state highway which will be closed to at least some highway use for more than 10 minutes at a fixed location.
The village can fill it out now then send it in so next year we will be all set. Another suggestion is we hold it at the VFW Post or go to a local cemetery to hold our services if the above paperwork is too much trouble.
In closing, I was curious if the village acquired a permit for the firemen's boot drive held in the village that weekend? It seems it falls under the same special use permit. If so, then the village could do both each year around the same time not forgetting either organization.
