Twenty years ago - 1992
The Chautauqua County Dental Society recently announced Michael Marsan of Fredonia Elementary School and Allison Kozlowski of St. Hyacinth School in Dunkirk as the respective winners of the writing and art contests held in observance of National Children's Dental Health Month. Michael's poster theme was "Let Your Smile Live A While" while Allison's poem, also winner of a $100 district prize, focused on preventing tooth decay.
Thirty years ago - 1982
Thomas Keller of Murray Hose Co. No. 4 in Dunkirk received a plaque from Robert Tworek. Mr. Tworek is president of the Chautauqua County Fire Advisory Board. Mr. Keller is credited with pulling another Dunkirk fireman to safety after the fireman collapsed, overcome with smoke, May 22, 1981, during a house fire at 623 Canary St.
Forty years ago - 1972
Roger K. Moore has resigned as baseball coach at Fredonia High School, effective at the end of the season.
Fifty years ago - 1962
Cheryl Anderson, a senior at Fredonia Central School, has been named Calendar Girl of the Month. She is the daughter of Mrs. Marian Anderson of 45 Cottage St., Fredonia.
