Tim and Marylou Dykas of 303 W. Seventh St. in Dunkirk, have been named the first Rising Star winners for 2012.
Program sponsor Andy Dziduch of ADD Lumber presented a $100 gift certificate to the couple for their efforts. The Dykas's made considerable improvements to their home which included a new addition, metal roofing, new composite decking, walk way and black top for off street parking as well as landscaping and a new front entry way door.
The Rising Star program was created to promote and recognize city of Dunkirk property owners who make significant exterior improvements to existing residential homes, which in turn helps to elevate the image of city neighborhoods. Each month through October, a $100 gift certificate will be presented to the winning property owner. Program guidelines and nomination forms are available from the City Clerk's office and the following Rising Star sponsors: Add Lumber, Bargain Outlet, Service Hardware and the Home Depot. All exterior home improvements will be considered and residents are encouraged to apply.
