Twenty years ago - 1992

Featured on the front page is "Ollie" the pet pig, as she goes for a stroll with owner Gary Dolce on Central Avenue in Dunkirk. Mr. Dolce said Ollie, a Vietnamese pot-bellied pig who is 8-months-old, walks at least twice a day for about six city blocks.

Thirty years ago - 1982

A sports profile on Frank Janvier, the retired owner of Fredonia Laundry and Dry Cleaning, reveals that he was the world welterweight wrestling champion in 1923. The championship bout matched Janvier against Jim Scott, welterweight champion of Europe. Chautauqua County American Legion Posts, along with Fredonia Post No. 59 promoted this championship event which was held in Fredonia and Janvier won.

Forty years ago - 1972

Zenon B. Olow, 10802 South Roberts Road, Dunkirk has been enrolled as the 5,000th member of the Chautauqua County Automobile Club. For this honor, Mr. Olow received an AM-FM radio from the auto club.

Fifty years ago - 1962

Conrad Pawlak, 411 East Main St., Fredonia has been awarded a National Science Foundation grant to study advanced mathematics at the University of West Virginia in Morgantown, W.Va., this summer.
