Grants available
for rental properties
Grant funding is available for landlords anywhere in Chautauqua County whose rental properties were built before 1978 and might contain lead-based paint. The funding is through HUD's Office of Health Homes and Lead Hazard Control. Eligible applicants must be landlords who rent to tenants of moderate income and who have a child under age six that lives in the apartment or spends at least six hours per week there. Property taxes must be current and the property must be insured. These funds can be used to replace old painted windows and doors and correct other problems with failing lead-based paint. For more information and an application, contact Chautauqua Home Rehabilitation and Improvement Corporation at 661-7650, 363-4650, or 753-4650.
Shingles vaccine clinic on Saturday
Johnson's Village Pharmacy, 99 E. Chautauqua St., Mayville, is sponsoring a Zostavax (shingles) Vaccine Clinic Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Recently the age guidelines have been lowered, and patients can now be age 50 and over to receive the vaccine.
A registered nurse will be on hand to administer the immunizations, and appointments must be made in advance. Many insurance plans will cover this vaccine, including Medicare D plans. The price without insurance is $225.
Contact our pharmacy at 753-3200 if interested in receiving this immunization. Those who have had chicken pox are more susceptible to getting the shingles virus, and the immunization may reduce the incidence and severity of shingles outbreaks. The pharmacy will contact your doctor and insurance to check coverage so advance planning is needed.
