Would you kiss a cow for a free ice cream cone? As part of a series of weekend events to promote the dairy industry, a "Kiss the Cow" contest will be held in the South Dayton Village Park this weekend. A pet cow will be stationed at the park and anyone who dares to smooch it will receive a free ice cream cone. The event is being sponsored by Jenny Lee and the Carnation plant.
Thirty years ago - 1982
Neil McNeight was elected director of the New York State Association of Fire Chiefs at their annual conference recently held at Kiamesha Lake. His term is for three years. Mr. McNeight is a past fire chief of the Fredonia Fire Department and presently serves as deputy county fire coordinator for training. He also has served on the Conference Committee of NYSAFC for eight years and the past six years as co-chairman of that committee.
Forty years ago - 1972
The Rev. Harland J. West, Fredonia State University College chaplain for the past nine years, is beginning a new position as campus ombudsman. This position has been established by the Student Government Association at the college.
Fifty years ago - 1962
The Rev. Michael Giovino, administrator of St. John Bosco Church in Sheridan, has been installed as pastor. This marks the first time in 10 years that the church has had a pastor.
