Washington, D.C. - Mary Jane Ambrose Postove, 93, of Washington, DC, died on Friday, June 15, 2012 at her residence. In her early years, Mrs. Postove assisted her mother, Mrs. Lillian Promenschenkel Ambrose and her father, Thomas Patrick Ambrose, proprietors of The Oakdale Beach Hotel in Dunkirk.
The top student in her class, Jane graduated from St. Mary's Academy. An alumnus of SUNY Fredonia, Jane later received her Masters in Audiology and
then earned a Masters of Arts degree from the University of Maryland. In 1944, Mrs. Postove worked as an audiologist for the US Army and in 1949 the army
transferred her to Washington, DC. Jane designed a complete audiology program for returning veterans at the Walter Reed Medical Center where she remained
until retirement as head of the department. After retiring from Walter Reed, Mrs. Postove became a professor of Audiology for the University of Maryland, College Park MD. Jane authored several journal articles and a book on audiology. In 1957, Ms. Postove married her husband of 45 years, the late Mr. Herman
Postove. Her best friend Gustavo Adolfo of Washington, DC, her nephew, Thomas Ambrose of Shavertown, PA, her nieces, Lynn Holmes of Durham, NH, and Mary
Nasca of Sun City West, AZ survive Mrs. Postove. In addition to her husband, her brothers Thomas A. Ambrose and Marshall Ambrose preceded her in
death. Memorial Services will be held privately in Washington DC and in Van Buren Bay, New York.
