According to David Davies, first assistant chief of the Westfield Fire Department who was at the scene, the call came in about 2:45 p.m. and by about 3:30 p.m. the operation was finished.

Davies said that two kayaks were out on Lake Erie.
Three individuals were involved when the kayaks first got into difficulty. A fourth individual swam out to assist and also had to be rescued. Two male and two female adults were involved.
The individuals were treated on the beach. Hospitalization was not needed.
Davies said that besides Westfield Fire Department, Sunset Bay Fire Department, Brocton Fire Department, and the Chautauqua County WET team were at the site. Brocton sent a personal rescue vehicle.
Davies said that people need to follow standard precaution measures. "This is Lake Erie. Pay attention to the size of the waves," he said.
