Twenty years ago - 1992

The Citizens Against Illegal Fireworks group recently held an essay contest in the Fredonia Elementary Schools on the use of illegal fireworks. Fourth-grade winner was Matt Briggs while Michael Pietrikiewicz was the winner at the fifth-grade level. Sixth grader Miriam Steinberg took top honors in her age group.

Thirty years ago - 1982

Geoff Fox and Susan Hunt of P.M. Magazine (Channel 2) and their crew visited The Bark Grill in Westfield and shot a sequence to be aired in segment on Chautauqua Institution. The restaurant's owners are John and Barbara Buczek of Fredonia.

Forty years ago - 1972

Edward C. Steele, president of the Red Wing Co., announced today that Douglas H. Manly of Fredonia has been promoted to executive vice president of the company.

Fifty years ago - 1962

Allan Stuhlmiller, head baseball and basketball coach at Dunkirk High School, has been designated head umpire for the city softball league this season by the Dunkirk Recreation Commission.
