Dedication of the Dick Van Wey Memorial Dog Way
On Saturday at noon, the Dick Van Wey Memorial Dog Way will be dedicated. The Peace Park on Franklin Avenue in Dunkirk will be the site of the free range for dog owners.
Dog owners who might want to use the area are invited to the event.
"I will meet with the dog owners to go over the protocol and listen to concerns and needs," said Peter Miller, whose land comprises the Peace Park.
Van Wey and his dog Lucky were fixtures in the fourth ward and in Dunkirk.
"This is the first anniversary of Dick's passing and Dick asked me if I would do this. I promised I would and several dog owners have begun to use it. The trail to the free range will be named 'Lucky Lane' after Dick's dog, Lucky," Miller said.
